On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, the Carrollton Solar Go-Kart team met with engineering students from Gulliver Preparatory School. Carrollton hosted the Gulliver students after school in the Philippine House Maker Space to discuss possibilities of working together, creating a partnership for the future, and mentoring Gulliver as they prepare to build a solar go-kart of their own. This was a great opportunity for the Carrollton to share their experience, advice for a new team and reflect on past competitions. This was an opportunity to introduce more schools from Miami to enter the Florida Gulf Coast University SunChase Competition, which Carrollton won last year and has already begun preparing for.
This meeting included a discussion of varied topics including what each school is doing currently with their students in terms of engineering programs, each student’s interests, outreach, and discuss the ins and outs of the FGCU race. Each student, from both schools, shared their passion from the business aspect of engineering to computer science. With this new partnership, both schools hope to invite more schools in Miami to join their efforts in promoting STEM in their schools and creating a network that allows their students to share ideas, experiences, and advice. This meeting marked the beginning of a partnership between Carrollton and Gulliver to foster teamwork and healthy competition.
